History: Darren Patterson Christian Academy is an excellent example of God's redeeming work in the face of daunting pain and loss. Fourteen year-old Darren James (DJ) Patterson was killed in a car accident on Thanksgiving Day 1981. Sometime prior to his death, DJ had expressed an interest in attending a Christian school; none was available in Buena Vista at that time. The Academy, created in Darren's memory and bearing his name, was begun in the fall of 1982 to honor Darren's desire for Christian education. Though of course DJ never sat in a classroom at the school that bears his name, hundreds of students and their families have benfitted from his desire for Christian education.
Darren Patterson Christian Academy began with just a few grades and a few students meeting in a local church. In the years since the school's founding, the Lord has blessed the Academy with ongoing financial provision, our own school building opened in 1996, and a significant addition to the school's facilities completed in 2007. Much more than facilties, the DPCA community has been blessed over the years with seeing students come to Christ, rich educational and service experiences, ongoing support for and from parents and families, and graduates launched out into exciting futures as young adults prepared for Christian life and service in a challenging world. We're grateful for the Lord's provision, the founders' vision, and the ongoing commitment and faithfulness of the DPCA school board, faculty and staff, and the parents and students of the DPCA community.
