Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.  Philippians 2:3-6

Authentic community happens at DPCA. As students, you will be encouraged to live and work together. By pursuing intimate community with your peers and mentors, you will more deeply understand the importance of honesty. You will learn to work through your issues with others in order to build more constructive, Christ-like relationships. Most of all, you will learn that in order for relationships to work, you need the humility that Paul talks about in Philippians 2 (see above) in order to make this kind of community work.

Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.  Ephesians 4:2-4

Living out the unity of faith is an important goal at DPCA. Granted, this will be hard. That is why you will have mentors to offer guidance, encouragement, and perspective as you grow in your relationship with Christ. In fact, this is so important to your experience at DPCA that we will keep the ratio staff to students at 1 mentor to 3-4 students. That way, every student will have access to important one-on-one time with his or her teacher.

Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other.
Romans 12:15-16

By learning to live in this type of community, you will learn to be the type of person Christ desires His disciples to be (whoever loses his life will save it). Our hope is that as you learn about authentic community at DPCA, you will impact your communities at home and elsewhere, sharing such Christian community with those around you.
